Lights, Camera, Action at Newport Harbour!

There was a special kind of excitement in the air at Newport Harbour recently. Our Calgary community welcomed the crew of Last Path Productions, who spent the day filming a hospital scene for their latest short film. For residents and staff, it was a chance to peek behind the curtain of moviemaking and even join in on the fun.

This isn’t the first time Newport Harbour has been part of a movie set. The community was also featured in the romantic drama Hello, Love, Again, making this the second time their halls have provided the perfect backdrop for storytelling on screen.

For about six hours, Newport Harbour was transformed into a movie set. Crew members arrived with cameras, lighting, sound equipment, and plenty of energy. From the first moment, they made a positive impression; they were professional, organized, and, above all, respectful. The team worked closely with staff to ensure everything went smoothly and, most importantly, that resident comfort and needs always came first.

The excitement was contagious. Many residents gathered to watch the setup and rehearsals, asking questions and sharing laughs as the day unfolded. For some, it was their first chance to see “movie magic” behind the scenes. A few residents and staff even had the thrill of stepping in as extras, giving them a story to tell for years to come.

From Festivals to the Big Screen

The short film is already on track to be shown at several film festivals. Festivals play an important role in the industry, helping independent filmmakers showcase their work and reach new audiences. There’s also a chance the film will be aired on television stations that feature short films. The ultimate goal is to spark enough interest to develop the project into a full-length movie, which is a dream the team is working toward with dedication.

Memorable Moments for the Newport Harbour Community

For Newport Harbour, the visit wasn’t just about cameras and lights. It was about creating memorable experiences that bring joy and variety to daily life. Opportunities like this highlight the vibrant, community spirit we foster here. Retirement living is about more than safety and comfort, it’s about connection, learning, and embracing new adventures. A film shoot may not happen every day, but it reflects the way Newport Harbour residents are always part of something bigger, whether it’s social events, creative workshops, or simply sharing laughter together.

Moments like these also remind us of the importance of staying socially and mentally engaged. Research shows that trying new activities, connecting with others, and having fun can positively impact mood and overall well-being. Watching a film crew at work may seem like a small thing, but it sparked curiosity, conversation, and joy throughout the community.

We’re proud that Newport Harbour was chosen as the backdrop for this creative project, and even more proud of the way the residents embraced the experience. It was a day filled with excitement, smiles, and a touch of Hollywood magic.
