Cathy Baysic, Courtyard Terrace Recreation Coordinator wins 2023 BC Care Provider of the Year Award in Assisted Living

We are so excited to share that Cathy Baysic, the Recreation Coordinator at Park Place Seniors Living’s seniors community Courtyard Terrace, won the 2023 BC Care Provider of the Year Award in Assisted Living!

Cathy Baysic - Recreation Coordinator for Courtyard Terrace in Burnaby BC

Cathy has been a Recreation Coordinator at Burnaby BC’s, Courtyard Terrace Seniors Community and has always been known to be resident-centered as she strives to ensure that everyone has the opportunity to participate in her organized recreation activities, regardless of their level of physical ability.

Understanding that not everyone has the same physical abilities, Cathy goes out of her way to help residents with mobility issues walk over rough and steep sidewalk terrain. For the residents that have difficulty maneuvering their wheelchairs, Cathy lifts the wheelchairs over the obstacles with a positive attitude to ensure all the residents get to enjoy the stroll.

The residents get fuelled by Cathy’s genuine smile and contagious laughter because they know she does it all to make her residents happy. Cathy even runs an open forum at her recreation meetings where all her residents are encouraged to share their thoughts, and also welcome their family members to attend and contribute. With the added levels of collaboration, she is able to organize fun events and activities that residents look forward to.

Here is a nomination submitted by the families and residents of Courtyard Terrace to Al Jina, the president of Park Place Seniors Living:

“Dear Al Jina,

We, the Residents Council of Courtyard Terrace would like to bring to your attention a most honourable and hard working employee of Courtyard Terrace, Cathy Baysic.

We understand that Cathy cannot be remunerated beyond what she receives right now, but we want to make sure that you at head office know that whatever it is, she is worth double.

Cathy cares for our emotional needs. She listens and talks with us and finds ways to solve our problems and keep us happy.

Cathy gets our muscles and joints moving with exercises and our minds sharp with games like trivia and boggle—to name just a few.

She organizes and takes us out on field trips (Part of which is dealing with HandyDart. For that alone she deserves a medal!)

Cathy makes sure we always know what is going on. She creates and gives to us the monthly calendar, newsletter, and all the minutes for all the various meetings we have here.

She wholeheartedly supports the Residents Council and all that we try to do. As well, the Garden Club and the Library Club can count on her for any labels, signs, or announcements.

Cathy has taken the time to learn the sign language alphabet so that she can talk with and has a good relationship with a couple of our deaf residents.

But beyond all these activities, the one thing we residents have all come to count on and appreciate is Cathy’s open loving heart. She tells us always, “I do it all to make you happy. That is the most important thing to me.” And we believe her.

We really believe she deserves some sort of commendation, but short of this we really wanted you to know what an amazing employee you have in Cathy Baysic.

Sincerely,

The Residents Council
Courtyard Terrace”

Congratulations once again for the award Cathy! All your hard work and dedication does not go unnoticed.
