Welcome to the Great Sunflower Growing Contest for 2016. Fourteen Park Place residences have entered this year and been sent Giganteus sunflower seeds for planting.

Planting of seeds is to take place on or after June 15. Sunflowers can be started in pots and then moved to gardens when the weather improves, however they will then be considered in the "garden" category. Measurements can be taken as often as you like, but need to be sent in to Lynn - This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. - at least monthly.

Pictures of the flowers with their teams are encouraged as often as you can – please send brags and photos to This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it. for posting on the Sunflower Contest web page. Please make sure anyone in the photos has given permission for their image to be posted online.

NEW THIS YEAR: Due to climate differences, the participating sites have been divided into two divisions, East and West, based on government of Canada climate designations and plant hardiness scales. Please see the table below for your division. There will be prizes for the largest entries in both the East and West division, for both the Potted and Garden categories.

ISSUE CHALLENGES! Competition at each site is encouraged: neighbourhood vs. neighbourhood, staff vs. residents, individual vs. individual, site vs. site ... have fun! The official "Measure Off" will take place between September 15 and September 30, depending on weather.

REMEMBER TO HAVE FUN WITH THIS: Check the website regularly during the contest to see what your rivals are doing. Send pictures. Throw out dares. Challenge your rivals. If all else fails, break out the art supplies and hand-craft your Sunflowers...some creative 'plants' have appeared in the past.
