Two Park Place Seniors Living team members are recognized for the compassion, dedication, and care they bring to residents and families every day.

Sandeep Veark, RN, from Agassiz Seniors Community and Jean Porsild, Housekeeper & Laundry Aide at Mill Lake Seniors Community, have been named recipients of the 2026 Fraser Health Care Community Awards in the Nursing Staff and Allied Health Staff categories, respectively. The awards recognize individuals working in long-term care and assisted living who enhance residents’ quality of life.

The awards celebrate individuals who make a meaningful difference for residents, families, and colleagues through exceptional care, teamwork, and service. Sandeep was recognized for his resident care, mentorship, and support of fellow team members. Jean was honored for more than 22 years of service, reliability, teamwork, and genuine care for residents.

The awards also highlighted the outstanding contributions of other Park Place team members. Liridona Mjekiqi, LPN, from Agassiz Seniors Community, was nominated in the Nursing Staff Category, while Resh Manjara, HCA, from Glenwood Seniors Community, was nominated in the Health Care Assistant Staff Category. Their nominations reflect the high standard of care provided across our communities every day.

Congratulations to Sandeep and Jean on this well-deserved achievement. We are proud to celebrate their contributions and grateful for the positive impact they have on the lives of those they serve.

Recently, members of the Park Place Seniors Living Corporate Office team came together at English Bay for a beach cleanup before gathering for lunch together.

What started as a simple volunteer activity quickly became a great opportunity to connect outside of the office, enjoy the outdoors, and contribute to a cleaner community. Team members worked side by side collecting litter and helping care for one of Vancouver’s most iconic public spaces.

The day was a reminder that even small actions can have a positive impact. Beyond the cleanup itself, the event provided a chance to strengthen relationships, share a few laughs, and spend time together while supporting a cause that benefits the broader community.

Construction Progress Continues on Edmonton’s Newest Seniors Living Community

Park Place Seniors Living is pleased to share a significant construction update on Beverly Heights Seniors Community, our newest seniors living development in northeast Edmonton.

Just over a year after breaking ground in July 2025, the project has reached a major milestone with the completion of the building’s primary structural framework. Recent aerial images showcase the remarkable progress made across the site as Beverly Heights continues to take shape and move closer to welcoming future residents.

Spanning approximately 286,000 square feet, Beverly Heights will provide 264 senior living spaces, helping address the growing need for seniors housing and care services in Alberta. The community has been thoughtfully designed to support residents across a range of care needs while promoting comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

One of the defining features of Beverly Heights will be its 18 uniquely designed neighbourhoods, each created to foster a sense of belonging, meaningful connections, and personalized care. These smaller, resident-centered environments will support a welcoming and engaging lifestyle while helping residents feel truly at home.

The project officially broke ground in July 2025 in the presence of community leaders, government representatives, and local residents. Since then, construction has progressed steadily through challenging weather conditions and a demanding construction schedule. Thanks to the efforts of the many consultants, contractors, tradespeople, and project teams involved, work is now progressing from structural completion toward interior construction and finishing stages.

Construction is anticipated to be completed in early 2028, and Park Place Seniors Living looks forward to sharing additional milestones as work continues toward the community’s anticipated opening.

Located in northeast Edmonton, Beverly Heights Seniors Community is a new Park Place Seniors Living development featuring 264 senior living spaces. What kind of seniors residence is right for us?

This is usually where the conversation starts, and the answer depends on where your loved one is right now, not just where they might be in a few years.

Park Place offers three main levels of care. Independent living is for seniors who are largely self-sufficient but ready for the convenience and connection of community life. There are no nursing services, but residents have chef-prepared meals, housekeeping, activities, and neighbours who are in a similar stage of life. Just as importantly, residents maintain control over how they spend their days. Independent living is designed to support freedom, and personal choice.

Assisted living (BC) and supportive living (AB) sit in the middle. These communities are for seniors who can still make their own decisions but benefit from help with daily tasks like bathing, dressing, or managing medications.

Long-term care is for seniors who require 24-hour nursing support due to more complex physical or cognitive needs.

What is the difference between “subsidized” and “private pay”?

Subsidized care means the government covers a portion of the cost, with the resident paying the remainder based on income. Private pay means the resident covers the full cost themselves.

Independent living at Park Place is fully private pay. Assisted and supportive living, as well as long-term care, can be either, depending on your province and individual situation. Our subsidized care page has more details on how to apply and what to expect in each province.

What does it mean when a residence is “accredited”?

Accreditation Canada is an independent, national body that evaluates health care organizations against standardized quality benchmarks. When a long-term care or assisted living residence holds accreditation, it has been assessed externally and found to be following best practices in care delivery.

All Park Place long-term care and assisted living homes are fully accredited. When families are comparing options, it is one concrete thing they can look for.

What is “A Voice and a Choice”?

It is one of the founding principles of Park Place, and it shows up in practical ways every day.

“A Voice and a Choice” is our commitment that residents will be cared for as individuals. It means you keep the right to have input in your care, your routines, and your daily preferences, rather than simply fitting into a set system. When Al and Jenny Jina opened the first Park Place location in Nelson, BC, in 1993, this was built in from the start. It still shapes how care is delivered across every community today.

Are meals and social activities included?

Most Park Place residences include a meal plan as part of the monthly rate across all care levels. Meals are prepared on-site and vary by location — we recommend checking with the specific community you are exploring for the most accurate picture.

Social calendars are also standard. From fitness classes and outings to seasonal events and quieter programming, most locations offer a full schedule each month. Monthly activity calendars can be downloaded directly from each location’s page on our website.

Are small pets allowed?

Yes, at most independent living residences. Visiting pets are also welcome at other care locations, provided they are leashed and have up-to-date vaccinations. Policies can vary, so it is worth confirming directly with the location you have in mind.

What if my loved one’s needs change after moving in?

This comes up in almost every family conversation, and it is worth taking a moment to address.

Many Park Place communities offer more than one level of care, or are near sister locations that do. As needs change over time, there are often options to bring in additional support without requiring a full move to a new facility. Every situation is different, and our teams are used to helping families think through what that pathway might look like.

Silverado Creek Seniors Community was acknowledged for its exemplary achievement in meeting the quality improvement target of 15% over a two-year period for reducing the use of antipsychotic medications.

The Silverado team received the recognition from the Appropriate Use Coalition and has proudly framed and posted its certificate in the front lobby area of the home. The Appropriate Use Coalition is committed to improving patient outcomes and reducing risks through appropriate prescribing.

On June 6, Newport Harbour Seniors Community welcomed Pierre Poilievre, Leader of Canada’s Conservative Party, along with Calgary Confederation candidate Elan Harper, for a visit with residents and team members.

The visitors helped celebrate Alberta Seniors Week. They also marked the anniversary of D-Day, honoring and remembering the courage and sacrifice of those who served at this important time in history.

The visit provided an opportunity to meet with the residents while highlighting the important role senior living communities play in supporting older adults and their families. It also included conversations about the experiences of seniors and the importance of quality care and services. We value engagement with community leaders to help bring greater awareness to the experiences of residents and those who support them.
