Seniors Care Home

Shaughnessy Care Centre has been serving the seniors of Port Coquitlam and surrounding areas since 1989. The 66 bed fine care home is nestled between two of the city's many parks and just a stone's throw away from the Town Square. Our location provides the residents of Shaughnessy Care Centre with many opportunities to enjoy the history of the area and remain involved in their community. We are a secure, safe, home-like residence that recognizes each resident's individual uniqueness. Shaughnessy Care Centre believes in providing our residents with client centered care and the best in care and service needs.

Seniors Accommodations

Shaughnessy Care Centre has 56 private rooms and 5 semi-private companion rooms. Each room is furnished and has a private two piece ensuite. Residents and families are encouraged to decorate and personalize their room and to make it "their home". Most rooms have a view of the adjoining park or of the beautiful courtyard in the center of the home, giving residents the opportunity to enjoy the seasons. The facility is secure, offering those residents with cognitive impairment, a safe place to reside.

In-house Services

Meals and More

Home-cooked meals incorporating seasonal fruits and vegetables are provided three times a day from our kitchen, and an alternate is always available. Our dietary staff also provides homemade snacks and beverages between meal times. The "Comfy Corners" on each floor allow residents and family to serve themselves tea and coffee throughout the day. Families and friends are always welcome to purchase guest meals and private areas can be set up for dining, as needed. During the year, we have celebrations with BBQ's and theme meals. All special dietary needs can be accommodated and the dietitian is available for consultation.

Social Life and Recreation Programs

Shaughnessy encourages residents to live life to its fullest. Family and friends are always welcome to visit and private parties can be arranged in our lounges. There are many areas for social opportunity and time to visit with fellow residents.

Our recreation staff and volunteers provide even more opportunity for residents to fulfill their day. An quick sample of programs include: Fun and Fitness, Bingo, Movie Nights, Outings, Pet Therapy, Card Games, Pub Nights and Happy Hours, and much, much more.

Outdoor Enjoyment

Centrally located inside the facility is a beautifully landscaped courtyard. Residents spend many an hour out enjoying the outdoor space, listening to the relaxing sounds of the water garden. The courtyard is secure and allows residents to wander in and out its many entrances. A gazebo and covered patio area provide residents with shade. Just outside our front entrance is a local park where many residents and families often can be found visiting. Opportunities for residents to garden are also available.

The Caring Team

The residents of Shaughnessy Care Centre are served by a team of both professional and non-professional staff. Everyone works together to ensure that our residents are happy and receive appropriate care and services. We believe in providing holistic care that provides for our resident's physical, social, psychological, cultural and spiritual needs. At Shaughnessy, each resident is asked “How do you want to live here?” The answers are written down in a resident “My Day” journal which guides the staff in providing care and service and which allows all staff to know each resident's individual needs on a daily basis.

Consultants are available to complement the staff on site, as needed. Shaughnessy is "a real home and a great choice" because of the dedicated and caring staff. Many staff have been here long-term and take pride in the resident focused service they provide. They uphold our standards of excellence and fulfill the mission of Park Place by "enriching the lives of our seniors".
